Clutch 4 months after lock up with male
It has been at least 4 months since female was with male, she had a clutch yesterday. Why did it take so long? Back in February-March when I thought she was gravid; she soaked in waterdish almost daily for 2 months straight.I gave up thinking she was gravid until recently when I saw her laying belly up. I thought no way after 4-5 months she's gonna lay eggs, needless to say this was a pleasant surprise.
Can anyone explain this to me?
Thank you

It usually takes at least that long, sometimes even longer. Ball Pythons are not a species you can breed once a boom there are eggs in a few weeks.
I starting pairing mine in November, and got my first clutch the middle of this month. So both of my girls went 6 months between first pairing and laying.

I had a female ovy yesterday that has been paired since the beginning of November. 4 months is how long my other 2 girls took this year from pairing to laying...

I started pairing in Nov as well and I just got my two clutches this week.
The fact that you got yours in four months seems unusually fast actually.

Re: Clutch 4 months after lock up with male
It's not unusually fast, it just depends at what stage of female follicular development you start pairing. If you catch the female at the right time, you can have a clutch inside of 3 months. Most people will just start pairing either at the very beginning of development or it is the pairing with the male that will actually encourage the development of follicles, which is why it is such a long process. With ultrasounds or good palpating skills, you can tell the best times at which to pair, which will ultimately "shorten" the process.

I wasn't intending on breeding this year, but I had 2 bps that wouldn't eat. Female normal 2000g and a 1500g male spider. I paired em up to see if they would eat after. Their first lock was march 5 if I remember right and I am expecting eggs in 2 weeks. That seems fast to me but things happen when they happen.

I started pairing in AUGUST 2011 and got our first clutch on April 7th, 2012. Don't fret, you got lucky. That was a very short period of time, lol.

With one of my girls I started pairing her in November of 2009 and paired her up till July of 2010. She didn't give me anything by the end of August, so I thought she just wasn't ready yet as it was her first year breeding. Come November 2010 we put a male in with her at the beginning of the month take him out 3 days later then go to put him in 3 days later and low and behold we had to stop cause she was sitting on 7 pearly whites! So it took her over a year from being paired up until she gave us eggs. We are breeding her again this year and not seeing a lot good signs yet. If she waits and gives us another fall clutch this year we may just have to change her breeding cycle and plan on eggs in November from her.
