Breeding plans, input wanted!
Figure I'd post this here since it's more about genetics and what to buy...just finished a new rack and have lots of space to expand from my collection of only 2 snakes, but what to get?
So far I've got a pastel male, and a spider female...with plans to add an f. butter and a m. pinstripe, but I've also been thinking about a mojave, or yb pastel or a lesser. The only issue is my budget right now is $800, any other morphs to add to make some really interesting combos? And what male do you think would be the best choice?
My two current snakes:

1.0 Pastel "Spot"; 1.0 Butter "Hyde"; 0.1 Bumblebee; Spider "Fang"; 1.0 Pastel YB; 0.1 Normal "Nagini"
0.2. Coastal Carpet Pythons (One currently MIA)
2.2 Kitties - Daisy, Ivy, Quincy & Eridan

Re: Breeding plans, input wanted!
id sell the pastel male and replace it with a double gene male maybe a super pastel or a lemon blast. and pick up what ever females you really like. truely it is all about what you like and what you want to produce. I started with a couple single gene males and a couple single gene females and a few cool looking normals. Now i'm slowly building up to all morph females and looking for the right double and triple gene males. of course i'll never give up my normal girls. I love them all! I get all excited when i come across a really unusual looking normal. btw good lookin pair you have. really like the spider

Spot was my first bp! I'd never sell him!
But I will try to go after multi-gene males, hopefully with pastel in them because those are awesome imo, just brightens up any morph. I have space for about 6 males before the rack starts getting crowded, and 5 females.
I really want to work with all the BEL complex snakes, as well as pieds...if I could get pastel lessers, butters, or mojaves all het pied that would be such a sweet group...but I dunno how that'd fit in my $800 budget.
Or maybe just skip the hets and get a pied pair when I have some $ available.

Good that you included what you want to produce and what your budget is. You can produce both pieds and BELs with that budget.
You can pick up a mojo male or female and a lesser male or female then get a het pied pair for pretty cheap. I would say you could probably get a discount if you buy a pair of het pieds for around $300. With the 400, you could pick up a female mojo for around $250 to $300 and a lesser male for around $200. If you buy them together from the same person, you could probably score a discounted price .
Also, don't rule out possible hets! You could get visual morph pos hets for really cheap! The only problem is that you won't know if they are in fact carrying the gene... Bit of a gamble. It's not for everyone, but it IS an option .

OH wow! I thought for sure that both projects were out of my price range! That is pretty awesome, thanks!
One more q tho, would it be more productive if I get a single pied then pick up a het to mate with him or her later? Or just go right there and get the het pair?

Do you want to start out w/ hatchlings or adults?
Adults will be more expensive.
But if you choose to go w/ hatchlings, I recommend just buying females first.
It will take them about 2 years to sexually mature. Males take less time to mature so you can get them at a later date (About a year after females). Some males can even breed w/i a few months of life. And the males might go down in price by time you need them.
And it's always a good idea to be female heavy.
I also agree with everyone suggesting a 2 gene male. Single gene males get obsolete fast. Plus some 2 gene males go for pretty 'cheap'.
If you like darker/high contrast morphs, you might like black pastels.
Black pastels mixed w/ mojave, pastels, and lessers are super hot!!

I say go for a pastel lesser male n breed to the spider for queen bees. If you can, pick up a bumble bee female too so u can get killer queens, queens, lesser bees, bumble bees, super pastel, n killer bees. A lot of profit as well as beautiful snakes. That should easily provide money for a new project
