Hey Guys,
Just got excited about feeding day tonight so I thought I would share with you guys. I bought a 400g Black Pastel female last week and she was being fed medium live ASF. I warmed up two FT Norway Pups, one for my Lesser, and one for her thinking I would try and offer and see what happened. I fed the rest of my adults their ASF's so I had the ASF bin sitting by the racks for about 15 minutes at this point to get the smell circulating through the rack. As soon as I opened her bin she was ready and took the FT Norway right off the bat. I always try to switch over to frozen ASAP, and for some of my guys it's just not successful but I have never had such and easy switch.
Here is what I usually do when I bring home a live ASF eater.
#1. No food for 7 days, and offer FT Norway, if they don't take
#2. Offer Live Norway for 2 feedings
#3. If wont take Live Norway than no food for 7 days
#4. Offer Live ASF for 1 feeding
#5. wait 7 days
#6. Offer frozen ASF for next feeding.
#7. If it won't take it I feed smaller live ASF 7 days later and piggyback a FT Norway/Hooded PUP. x 2 feedings
#8. Try feeding Frozen Norway.
#9. If still doesn't take than I give up, and accept the fact that I have an live ASF eater.
I don't want to stress them out or go too long without getting food into them. If they have their minds set on Natals there is nothing I can do to get them off. I'm really happy I got her on them first step!
ASF was going for $5.00 a large adult last year so I found it impossible to keep them properly fed. My adults eat 2 a week and I have 5 adults, 2 boas and 4 juvies.. My adult ball pythons alone were costing me $160.00 a month to feed another $40.00 in rabbits for the boas, and another $80.00 in mediums for my juvies. = $280.00 a month in feeding costs for 11 snakes hahaha it was killing me! So I managed to get 3 of them over onto Norway FT before the cost of large ASF dropped to $1.75, so now I feed the Adults ASF again. Better feeding response, I find.
Anyways, this turned out to be a much longer post than I planned.. I just wanted to share the fact that I got her to switch first try. hahaha
Cheers,
Chris.
