    How would you reply?

I just received a text that read: "do people really feed baby kittens to their snakes? Jw"

Now I have no clue what to say. What would your reply be.

"NO, kittens don't taste like chicken. Haven't you ever tried one? Rats are much better."

I would reply that simply that feeding snakes kittens is a myth... I don't know a single person who would, they cost far too much, and could seriously injure if not kill a pet snake easily.

Mice, and rats are what 99% of snake owners feed their snakes

    Re: How would you reply?

There are people who have been caught feeding domestic pets to their reptiles - High End herps was one of them.

I'd point out the kind of person who would feed kittens/ dogs to snakes would also feed them to dogs or anything else that would eat meat.

Snake keepers are people too so we get the same idiots everyone else does once the hobby becomes popular.

In short - broken people are broken no matter what they do as a hobby.

Also we can be fairly certain even those idiots in our hobby kill less animals than PETA.

No doubt I just spent $10

I just feel the question is so ignorant, I mean sure some idiot probably does or has. But as a general rule, no one feeds kittens. Thats why I dont know how to reply.

    Be honest.

Say very simply, " 99.9% of responsible reptile owners would never consider something like that. However, just as in the rest of life there will always be a few idiots who give everyone else a bad name. "

Ask them if people drive while deeply intoxicated? Do people give their dogs booze? Do people leave babies locked inside a car while they conduct business in an air conditioned building?

There are idiots in EVERY walk of life, but as a general rule, no...people don't typically feed kittens to snakes.

It's all the stupid video on youtube about the guy feeding his Burm a kitten in a santa hat's fault...

Only idiots feed their snakes food that is not ideal and can cause serious health problems to their pets. Have you ever been bitten by a cat? My finger swelled up like a ballon for a few days! Very painful and infection settled in fast.
Tell them to stick to rats and mice. Much healthier and safer to feed!

It's important to remember that person wasn't a reptile keeper though - his sick thing was the killing of the cat with the method being secondary.

He had other videos of drowning, crushing etc.
