Can you describe your set up? Cage, heating, substrate, hides, temperatures and humidity, and how you are measuring them.

You really shouldn't handle him at all for about a week. This will allow him to settle into his new home

    Welcome to BP.net!

What you are experiencing with your new ball python is actually common. Young BPs can be a bit on the nippy side when they're young. They are still pretty small, and the world around them is pretty big. Trust me, he will begin to calm down over time with the right husbandry and handling.

Tell us a little about the tank you have him set up in. And please tell us what the T-shirt trick is. Not sure I'm familiar with that one.

    First off- Hello and welcome.

This place is great for info. I would start out by reading the care sheets on the forum (I would direct link you but I don't know how). If your set up is at the right temp and humidity and he has a hide you should leave him alone completely for a week (I know- Its hard). Let him acclimate before attempting to handle Bj. Some times babies can be nippy but usually grow out of it. It just really sounds like his response are from stress.

If you tell us how you have him set up we may be able to give you more specific help.

    Good luck

I was afraid you were gonna' say that. It's an awesome trick for new puppies, but it's doesn't work for ball pythons, sorry.

Did the PetSmart guy give you that tip?
