Getting back into domestic rats

I'm getting back into breeding rats because my soft furs don't grow fast enough to give me a consistent supply of snake food. I had an ad on craigslist looking for a breeding pair and someone I don't know who I had never spoken to or met before from CRAIGSLIST was kind enough to give me a pair for free since I am really tight on money right now. I was fortunate enough to get a female siamese and a male black. I know that is the pairing that you need to get the high quality siamese but I'm not sure about how to do that. Do you breed the babies back to the siamese parent or breed them to each other? Also my balls have been on soft furs for about four months now, will it be difficult to get them back on rats or does it really just depend?

I am not sure how to get the specific color of rats but I do know I switched 27 balls from ASFs to rats cold turkey when I moved across country and the only problem I had was from my problem child Blk Pastel. And she is a problem eater all the time!!
I bred a pretty red eyed siamese to a greyish looking male and get 50/50 babies. Some look like mom and some like dad. And sometime they are curly haired too!!! I have no idea which carries that gene...lol

You can breed an offspring son back to the siamese mother or breed 2 siblings from your future litter. You will have a higher chance for siamese if you breed a son back to the parent siamese.

Just think if it like ball python recessive genes. And siamese is the visual recessive. Any offspring from that siamese parent will be 100% het for siamese.

And I can't tell you how difficult switching to Norway rats from ASFs are going to be. I've never had to try. But if you have any strong feeders, I suspect they will be the easiest to switch compared to the more picky ones.

I have no problem switching between ASF and norwegians either. I guess none of my animals are picky.

Thank you, I'll try son back to mother and see what comes out Yeah I shouldn't have any issues with Thor or Alice but Hook might have issues switching back because he's always been sort of picky.
