Quirks?
Last night, while feeding my corn Irileth, she exhibited the most hilarious and strange behavior. I only have one snake, so it makes 'feeding day' pretty simple and straightforward. She is in the process of going into shed, so I wasn't expecting her to hit it like she usually does. So she's chilling in the cool side and I hit her dinner with the blow dryer. She parascopes out of her hide (which was adorable) and waits. I offer it. She doesn't strike as usual, so I put it down in her enclosure. She comes over, twitching as if she's interested....
And then proceeds to rub her face and neck all over her meal for a good ten minutes. Then she'd pause, flick her tongue, and do it again. After a short while she eventually grabbed it and pulled it into her hide to snarf.
I double-checked her enclosure temps and made sure the mouse was nice and toasty, so I don't think it was a heat issue. If she hadn't eaten it, I might have been concerned. But she ate it like a trooper. Definitely wasn't a 'wobble' of any kind, as she had perfect motor control and was just rubbing her face on her meal.
Gotta say, it was absolutely weird to watch her do this. Hilarious, but at the same time, I'm like: "What... on earth... are you doing? "
Seems like all my animals have weird quirks or behaviors that are either endearing, or briefly mess with my head.
Anybody else have any critters with quirks? I'd be curious to hear if anybody else has animals with interesting behavior traits
