**Sighs** THIS is why I don't go on vacation.
I come home, all is well. Peer into everyone's tubs...wait. My Cinny, Ash, is curled up onto an enormous pile of bedding, his water dish is empty, full of bedding...and there's no heat. It's 70 in all the tubs. I notice the bedding on the floor, too. Oh, god. Turns out, the day after I left (I'd been gone a whole week, mind you!) my little sister pulled down the tub, and unplugged the heating. Mum put everything back, in the hopes it would all be okay, but fearing my wrath, didn't even call to tell me. No heat. Whole week.
Not to mention the room I put my new baby spider in to quarantine and carefully locked up was open, flung wide.
Thankfully, After forcing mouths open and listening closely, I'm pretty sure no one's developed an RI-yet.
I know, I know, ultimately this is my fault. I've had my snakes in my mom's room over winter, because it was the warmest room in the house. Just irritated that she didn't call!
Ah well. /rant over.

Sorry to hear about the mishap while you were gone. I lost my entire collection in a similar fashion back in 2010 while on a business trip. I understand the panic when you look in the tubs and realize things are very wrong.

HCC MORPHS, prey tell me more of this wonder drug. How do you use it in your collection?

OP I hear what you are saying in my region reptile enclosures must be secure that means a lock. Perhaps you should think about that. It would prevent this type of insident again. I use a 1/2 inch aluminum rod run through all the levels with a hole for a pad lock just under the top. The lock will not pass the hole and it is only 1/2 inch movement so it is not enough to pull loose from the bottom.
F10SC Nebulizing instructions... I am not sure if I would recommend this for anything but the lightest cases. It has been proven effective in europe. This is from the UK and Americas distributer.
Hi Alex,
Mix 4ml F10 SC in a litre of water (dilution ratio 1:250) and nebulize the reptile for approx 30 - 40 mins every day until the RI is cleared. If its a snake, after nebulizing hold it head down and clean any mucus from the mouth with an ear-bud. If you see no improvement after a week or so, go to a vet. Nebulizing works if you catch RI early however if its severe you may also need antibiotics. You should also check your environment is set up correctly - temps, humidity, etc.
cheers, John

Wow, glad everyone appears to be ok, but this scares me because we are about to go on a two week vacation to Wyoming next month. I fully understand you being ticked off! I personally would have expected a call from her after it happened. That could have fixed everything and it wouldn't have been a big problem in my eyes. You could have talked her over how stuff was supposed to be hooked up and what temps/etc should be so that you know everything was working properly. Instead it sounds like she just tried to cover it up or ignore the fact that it happened. I know when we leave we will explain everything to my mother in law who will be caring for critters while we're gone and show her how everything works. Luckily she has a good head on her shoulders. I will also have a friend, who keeps many reptiles, come check on them periodically.
I like kitedemon's lock idea and it would work great for keeping out kiddos, but I don't like the idea of no one having access in an emergency.

Oh, dude. I'm so sorry. That's one awful outcome.

Only problem is this isn't a rack, these are all free-standing tubs. But this evening I moved in all the tubs into my room. Breaking quarantine, yes, but heck, it's already been broken. I just want everyone safe and as near me as possible. Right now my whole family is kind of in flux, as we're building a house and going to be moving in in a month or so. Then I'll have a lockable door, and the ability to have a rack instead of free-standing tubs.
...And I still decided to breed this winter. Yes, I am, in fact, an idiot.

Oh man that sucks! It's definitely not easy to find someone to watch your snakes when you're gone. I hate going on vacation for that very reason.
