2 rescues I recently took in...:)
So this is my first thread on this forum, and my rescues are to thank for directing me here!
A quick backstory: I am a veterinary technician, and I recently started working for an awesome exotics vet that actually knows his stuff. I have lifelong snake and other exotics experience, so I decided that I wanted to look for rescues to take care of and adopt out, and I found the best way to do that was to post on Craigslist (no surprise there!). In less than a month, I've taken in 3 snakes, 2 BPs and a sickly Red-tail Boa.
The first BP was left in a pillowcase at a nearby nature preserve with a note stapled to the bag saying it was a 2 and a half year old female, very friendly, eats f/t thawed rat pups. She did indeed probe female and seemed very healthy and friendly. I have already given her to a a friend of mine that has corns, and was interested in getting a BP.
The second BP was sent to me by the director of the nature preserve (who had contacted me about the first one). He had been contacted by a young woman looking to rehome her snake because she was going away to college and her parents refused to take care of it. I went to her house and got him (Loki). She said she had been handling him less because of her schoolwork, and that he had seemed snippy and agressive lately. I asked her to get him out (so I could see how she did it) and she was obviously afraid of him. He essed up a tad bit and looked at her descending hand, and she kept pulling back, which made him come closer. I offered to try, gave him a minute to relax, then just reached in behind him and picked him up, no problem, Once I had him, he was curious and calm.
He really need to get out of his conditions though. She had him in a 29 gallon tank, screen lid, heat lamp and UTH, both unregulated, no way of monitoring temperature. Bedding was Eco-Earth, but it was bone-dry. She said that she got him 2 years ago from someone doing community service at the humane society where she volunteered, and that in the 2 YEARS she had him, he never had a normal shed. When I got there, he had "just shed last night" and it was coming off in flakes like a lizard, She also said he was getting 3 live mice once a month (has a couple bite marks too). He weighs 913 grams, so he should be getting about medium rats.
I gave him a good soak when I got him home, and all the stuck shed came off quite nicely. He's been set up with a couple nice hides, paper towels, and regulated heat. He also ate a f/t mouse for me with NO hesitation 5 days after I got him (it was everybody's feeding day so I figured I'd try him). I'll try a small rat rubbed with mouse next time!
So...pictures! Let me know if either looks like anything other than normals. I'm assuming they both are, even though his markings are very different from other normals I've seen.
The first few are of him, the rest are of the female.
These were taken in indirect sunlight inside.

These next four were taken with flash.

Now for the female! These were all taken with flash.

Thanks for looking!

I see two pretty healthy normal lookin BPs there. The first one looks a little skinny but nothing a few months of solid meals wouldnt fix!
Good job on the rescue Its also fortunate the previous owners didnt just let them go or surrender them to a chain petshop or something.
