    Hawaiian Herps!

I recently took a vacation on the big island and ran across a few herps. Not shown is a LARGE sea turtle that I came across while snorkeling (no underwater camera).

These turtles were resting on a secluded, small island. We had to swim across a small channel to get to them and unfortunately scared a couple of them back into the ocean.

This little guy (he was about 2 feet long from tail to head) was in a tide pool that may have become stuck during low tide. I'm sure he could have crawled out to the ocean so I'm sure it wasn't a big deal, but a lot of people got some good pictures of him.

One of the cool Green Anoles in one of the gardens we visited.

These geckos were EVERYWHERE. It's interesting how the colors didn't come back on his re-grown tail.

    Thanks for looking!

    -Lawrence

    Those are really cool.

That turtle in the tide pool is really amazing, it looks like a piece of art.

The little gecko is so cute!

I know, I was really surprised how much their colors pop when they're wet. I think part of it was that it was a young turtle, too.

Those are some great photos. I think sea turtles are such graceful animals...

    Re: Hawaiian Herps!

*sigh* I miss Hawaii so much.

I spent a day sitting and watching the turtles sun on Punalu'u beach, and watched them playing in the surf one afternoon at lunch at a different place. They're one of the coolest animals on the planet.

Love the day gecko, those little guys are so cute!

    Re: Hawaiian Herps!

I miss Hawaii so much. I used to go there once a year with my family. The problem is my family is in general morbidly obese and can't enjoy the islands like they should be able to. I was actually made fun of on our trip there over winter break for working out on a vacation.
