Males & females - disparity in growth rate?
Curious - I know I'd heard something on this topic before but my google search results on the topic were inconclusive. While I know that at maturity, females are larger than males, but what about as they're growing? It takes females longer to sexually mature, but what about physical size?
Thanks. Still learning here!

Our females generally grow at a much faster rate and are definitely bulkier. With that, we also feed our females a little better than our males, but not substantially more. Our males generally hit 500-750g by their first birthday. Our females generally hit 800-1,200g by their first birthdays. With proper feeding you should be able to expect similar results.

Not all females are bigger than males when adults. Some people have full grown females that are only 1200-1300 grams. They still are solid breeders though, even at that weight. Theyll never really get much bigger than that bc its genetic. Similar to how there are sub-saharan giants which can get to 5kg+.
As for growth rates between sexes i havent really noticed a difference. I have heard cases of people believing adult size and growth rates to be genetic. Like; mom put on weight fast and is a 3kgram female; therefore, her babies grow fast and get big too. Idk if thats true but ive heard people say that before.
That wasnt really an answer to your question specifically lol, but in a roundabout way i would have to say no, theres no real difference.

Do you feed them the same?
After considering it more, it would make more sense for females to grow faster. In the wild they would need to bulk up to get to breeding size.
Maybe its similar to how with humans females naturally have more fat since they carry the babies...
(thats a bad way to put it, but no ladies i am not calling you fat. Im speaky as in ratios only!)

I notice that on the forum many people say that the females grow at a faster rate. I only have 1 male, all others are female, and I must say that my male grows a LOT faster than the females. Like several times faster. I got my male pewter in mid january, and he was 150 grams. It's been what, 3 months? And he is well over 500 grams already. I don't overfeed him either, 1 appropriate sized rat a every 5 days.

Just depends on the snake in my experience. I have males that eat and grow like crazy and some that don't. I have females that are the exact same way. Just my experience but it's all over the place once you have a decent amount of pythons

Our females get a little extra sometimes, but nothing substantial unless they are breeding, in which case they are fed practically whatever they want. For sake of argument lets say I have 1.1 balls that aren't breeding and they both weigh 1,000g and I have two rats. One rat is 100g and one is 120g. The female will be offered the slightly larger rat. Fat males make lazy breeders, fat girls lay nice big clutches and gain their weight back better after laying. Hopefully that makes sense.
