    Nest box help

I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on making a nest box or direct me to a thread that already explains it. What do you make it out of and what is on the inside and how moist do you keep it? I know I am going to be out of town working when my last two girls lay their clutches. It is just a two hour drive but figure I'd like everything to be ideal in case the eggs have to stay with momma for a week or maybe two. I really appreciate it!

I'm not a breeder, so I have no expertise in this area, but I can't recall any ball python breeder I know using a nest box.

Why can't you just let your females maternally incubate them until you get back? If you do a search, there are several threads on maternal incubation.

The main thing is... you need a substrate that holds humidity well, like cyprus. Spray it down good before you leave. I keep my balls on newspaper and I had one lay and I didn't find the eggs till ( I am guessing) 2 days later. Train wreck... they were very dried out.

    Re: Nest box help

I haven't used a nest box before, but I would think setting up a humid hide with dampened sphagnum moss would do the trick. However, nothing is going to stay humid for "a week or maybe two". Do you have anyone checking on your BPs at all while you're away?

Yea I have someone coming to feed them every other week, cause I was planning on driving back every other week as well. You think the sphagnum moss will hold humidity for 4-5 days? If he notices eggs I can make the drive that weekend, I was just wondering just in case they drop them the day after he comes to check on em all.

Actually, the het pied timing worked like clockwork with the prelay shed, so I'll just wait for that and time it accordingly. The main goal was to make sure it was ideal for the "just in case" situation. Always better to be safe then sorry...
