silly question
How do i tell if my snake is hungry?
-
-
all the time? snakes are optimistic feeders so if food is offered they will most likely eat it because they don't know when there next meal is coming. My PH albino female will eat once a week and only once a week(she's weird) but my albino female,my JCP and my GTP would eat every day if I gave them the chance.
Someone might be able to give you a better explanation. but thats how i see it

You feed them on a regural schedule. Every 5-7 days. You feed young BP's 15% of their body weight (so if your BP weighs 100 grams you should feed him/her 15 grams of rodent) for older BP's just feed them a rodent that is about the same width as the widest part of the BP.
A hungry BP usually will be out "hunting" at night. But this isn't a fool proof method.

Re: silly question
i ask because i got a male bp over3 weeks ago. The guy i got him from said he was eating mice. I gave him a week to settle in. Then offered a mouse i a separate tub and the bp was more concerned with escaping the tub than the mouse. Im sure someone is going to ask me about husbandry so here goes; bp is 430g it is in a 10 gal while my boaphile plastics arrives in the mail. Im using an UTH and a infra red lamp to keep it 89 on the hot side and 77 on the cool side. The humidity ranges from 45 to 60 percent. He has two identical hides, one water bowl and I currently have him on repti bark substrate. I have tried feeding one mouse and one rat. In both cases the snake has refused. I wated 5 days between those two. I waited another 5 days and tried to feed a p/k mouse without success. I also understand that it is the breeding season and thats why he may not be eating but i just want to make sure im not missing anything. Any help provided will be greatly appreciated

Does the UTH have a thermostat?
BP's can go over a year without food, this isn't uncommon at all. Are you handling him at all?

Re: silly question
I wouldn't worry too much about it yet. Stress from moving and settling into a new home could be part of it. You let him settle in for a week so I would just offer him a mouse or rat each week and let him do his thing.

This could be your problem. Moving tubs for feeding can cause stress.
Try feeding him in his enclosure. The whole cage aggression thing when feeding in their enclosure is not true at all!
