    What's in a name?

Does anyone else think that a big part of ball pythons popularity is how they are marketed? There are tons of snakes out there to choose from, but I know at least from what I see the main attraction at reptile expos are ball pythons. Now we all know all the great things about them, personality, size, paint jobs But man the names just grab your attention. I think its great marketing, killer clowns, spinners, champagnes, spiders, ghosts, queen bees, honey bees, soul suckers! So again what's in a name? Do you think they would be as wildly popular as they are if they had lame names?

yes and no, a name is just a name to some extent. you first look at the balls at expos then read the name, so if its the color/pattern you like, thats what grabs your attention to ask what it is. while when someone says a name(soul sucker)it makes you want to see what it looks like. but then again some names are miss leading(silver bullet). like the silver bullet is amazing as a baby, but then kinda turns a ugly brown as they age
but its all part of the bp hobby we love

This a gorgeous snake but I can't say I'm really thrilled with the choice of name....

I personally think a lot of ball morph names are lame, if not outright ridiculous...so no, in my opinion, the names don't contribute that much, if at all to their popularity. The major contributors to the popularity of balls(again, IMO) are the huge volume of color and pattern morphs and combinations of them, the relative ease of care, and the very manageable size and housing demands.

Kevin is a big metal guy and "Angel of Death" is a Slayer song, so I imagine it comes from that.

A bp named after a Slayer song... Id buy it for just that reason alone lol!
Well no not really, but still very cool.
I personally think some of the names are cool but its not the reason why i like a morph. When someone first mentioned a soul sucker i thought that was such a cool name. After looking it up on WOBP i wasnt really impressed. My reaction was "bleh, meh"... I mean its a bp so i obviously still love it but i wouldnt want one personally bc the paint job doesnt wow me really.

EDIT: whoops, Jinx beat me to it on the Slayer reference lol...

It's a nice snake but not something to scream about.

I'd make up silly names like "Popcorn Ball".
