    Tub Dividers

So... I don't know which place this should go in, but I had an idea, and I didn't know if it would work at all, so I came to hear what other people would say.

I'm trying to plan out how I want to build my snake rack. I'm thinking of just starting with adult size tubs because it's easier for me, and I'll build it. I've also been told that I could shove a baby ball python in it as long as I had a sufficient amount of hides small enough for him to fit.

However, I was wondering if I could just make homemade 'dividers' potentially out of homemade clay, and fit those into the tubs, making 'hatchling' tubs in one large one.

I'm not sure whether this is a pro or con since I haven't actually seen it face to face, and I'm not very good at visualizing these things. I mean, I'd obviously need an extra adult rack as they grow, to transfer the snakes to bigger homes...

Still something I'm thinking about, and not sure if it's a) practical, or b) possible.

Any handy people out there with potential pros and cons that I'm not considering?

Are you planning on dividing sterilite/tupperware tubs? Obviously clay would help to fit into the grooves and wells formed in a tub, but you have to take into account how it fits when a lid/shelf is on top of the tub as well. Clay would be messy, difficult to clean, and heavy. If you have one giant divided tub, where they all same the same lid/shelf that functions as a lid, how do you intend on moving or interacting with one snake, while also monitoring that the others are not stressed or escaping, or getting their head trapped when you close the tub?

Seems easier just to make a shelf that will function as a cubby-space that fits both the hatchling tub height and the adult height of the tubs, so that you can just use individual tubs as babies, and move to bigger tubs as they outgrow them, without replacing the shelf itself.

That was my con, stressing out the snakes when I opened the tubs, and yes, the shelf would be the top.

I didn't think about accidentally closing the shelf on them... I need to actually see something in front of me to know how it'll work. xD

Much thanks! I think I'll just make two separate shelves. xD Make my life easier. Or see if I can find a shelf that fits tubs for both adults and juveniles. =)

Somebody else will have to chime in with which tub sizes interchangeable as far as being the same height/how many fit side by side etc... because I'm the same way, I have to see the dimensions in front of me to know how big things are. My boyfriend laughs at me because I measure with parts of my body when we are at the hardware store. I can accurately tell which screws or parts I need by using the thickness of my fingers, length between joints on my fingers, or the distance from my fingertips to my wrist or elbow

I do the same thing! I need to know the size of something before I can start working.

However, I think there are some smaller sterilite tubs that I can use that are about the same height as the large ones. Even if there aren't, I suppose I could also just have two different height in shelves depending on the sides.

Actually, I really just needed more cons as to why this wouldn't work. The handling of multiple snakes at once didn't even occur to me, and that is more than enough to make me not want to do it.

xD I always ask a bunch of questions that have obvious answers. *giggles*
