Question Help, advice, anything? Just got 2 baby garters, and have alot of questions.

Hi everyone! I just picked up 2 baby garters today. The fiance and I were looking for a few ring neck snakes and came across 2 baby garters. They are actually really calm and well mannered (which I find different lol) and Im just totally in the dark on how to care for these little buttons. and when I say totally...I mean it. Please help! anything is appreciated! thanks

I don't know much about keeping garters and I'm sure some garter keepers will chime in, but this looks like a pretty decent review of care after a quick google search:

I have also heard that many eat fish - silver or guppies kept in a semi-aquatic tank would probably do if you can't switch them to mice.

    Good luck!

Thamnophis.com is an active site dedicated to garter snakes. You'll find tons of info and quick help there.

That's where I was gonna send you! Mine eat chopped up pinkies, white fish chunks, and chopped earthworms. If yours are real little you'll have to cut everything up really small. Pinkies are easier to chop when still frozen! Thaw and feed. Much easier than needing to have your prey very hot.

gartersnake.info is where I went to get info on my Checkered, King. We tried fish fillet, feeder fish, worms, Everything and he finally took a f/t pinky. I suggest going to where you found them and look for potential prey. If they are near a marsh or stream, look for little fish. oif there aren't any, dont feed guppies. Try mice instead. Look for mice droppings. If there are a ton of frogs, sorry, so parasite ridden, your snake will be dead in a few weeks. Search under logs and dead leaves for worms. DO NOT GATHER THEM! Instead feed chopped up nightcrawlers.
