Any thoughts on this?.. I saw it tonight when buying some Moss... I've never heard it mentioned as a heat source..

They can be used as a heat source, when on a thermostat. They get very hot and will burn your reptile if not used properly. Other then that it is fairly simple to use and set up.

I just picked up a tub today, and will be setting it up tomorrow..would this be a good heat source in addition to the UTH? I will be using the UTH on the hot side..

No need. the UTH will do the job. If you want to use heat cable you will need a second thermostat.

My quarantine racks are vision v70 racks and they use the heat cable. Works fine

Yep, same cable Vision Racks come with. I just ordered another 50 foot'r for my vision CB70 rack. If on a thermostats it works great. Some people like to wrap it around branches and such inside their terrarium.. as long as its regulated I don't see why not

I know most others have said this but it's important. The cable gets REALLY HOT. I've used it. I didn't have much experience with balls when I got it and I used it unregulated. When I finally got a thermometer the hot spot was at 115. Wayyyy to hot. Just be careful is my final word on it.

LOVE the stuff. I use it on everything. Versatile, long lasting, and totally easy to use.

I would note that the super high basking area is only directly on the cable, which is all of 1/4" of an inch wide - if you space it further apart, you can get a more reasonable basking temperature range without a thermostat. 4 rows of 1/4" cable spaced about 1 - 1/2" apart will create an average basking area of about 90 - 95 degrees. It takes some tinkering, though, and I wouldn't do so while the snake is in the cage just in case there is too much of a spike.

So not only is it easier, a thermostat is definitely the safest way to do this, as well. Less worry.
