Placement of Hides

This may seem like im over analyzing things. My first bp wasnt eating for a while... after a trip to the vet, she didnt make it. I recently got a new bp. I want to make sure everything is perfect. My temps last time were correct but I want to make sure I get the details right. That being said, how should I place the hides in relation to the UTH? Should one hide go directly over UTH? I am also planning on getting a rack system. Those of you with racks, do you provide one hide or two?

I have one hide in my rack, on the cool side because the warm side is so dark already. its all up to you and your snakes tho. Good Luck!

Hides should be on the hot spot first and if you add one it then goes to the cool end.
We use tubs only and only our picky eaters get hides otherwise we have no hides at all.

I use pvc. I cut a piece of size appropriate pvc pipe and cut it so it can sit lengthwise in the tub and cut it alittle shorter then the tub this way the snake can go in the hide and hang out where it wants to. It can sit on the hot side or cool side with one hide@

the more the merrier, more temp option for the snake to choose from. From all the reading I have done the generl conclusion is if ya can place one on the hot and one on the cool. Reason being the snake does not have to sacrifice security for the temp it actually wants. Or, you could say it as does not have to sacrifice temp for security of a hide.

I use a rack system with tub and I provide a hide on both the warm end and the cool end. I use light weight RBI hides and kraft paper for substrate so my BPs have no problem moving the hides where they want them.

However, I really like snake lab's PVC pipe set up. First time I've heard about that idea...might be time for a trip to Home Depot.

How do you cut it length wise? This sounds like a good idea for smaller snakes.

to the OP: I have just one over the hotspot for adults. even though they dont "need" it, they still use it alot so i leave it in there for them. For my male cinny whose still smaller i have one on the hot side and one on the cool side. Hes alot more nervous and shy so i figure if i dont give him one on the cool side then he'd never come out of the warm hide lol

2 ways you can use the pvc pipe. One way you can cut it lengthwise on a table saw by raising the blade and using a 2x4 as a push so ya dont cut your hands off or you can simply cut the length of pipe leaving it shorter then the tub and simply placing it longways in the tub. This is the method i use in my freedom breeders since they are cb70 tubs. They like it cause they can get nice and snug in there.

Well I can't offer any new information, except to say that I have a rack system and currently only one snake has a hide and he's one who seems a bit insecure. He does move it all over his tub, too.

i use 2 identical hides on each side. the basic rule has always worked for me and none of my snakes refuse meals.
