The importance of safe wiring (Silly Sav)

So Littlefoot figured out how to climb all the way up to the ceiling of the cage and found this cozy spot to hang out.. Thankfully I wired this up right, and all the knockout plugs are still in place, or he could get inside the electrical box.

Also all that caulking keeps him from wedging into the seams of the cage too.

So now I suddenly feel the need to re-inspect every crevice in that enclosure..

This truly illustrates why you cannot cobble up your wiring, these clever devils will find a way to get into the craziest situations.

I tried getting him down, he puffs up and hisses at me.

He won't budge until I turn off the lights tonight and it cools down in there, then he will head off to his burrow.

Why do you have any electrical boxes inside the enclosure? I know it was originally built for Chomper, but you can easily put all that stuff outside the enclosure.

I wouldn't call that "wired" correctly...

Perhaps a re-do is in order?

    Already done.

The quick fix was to move the box out to the ceiling.

I would take off the roof and put it all inside there, but I sealed all the seams with glue when I built the enclosure.

There is no chance of him getting at the box now.

The two things that are most important to note here (the whole reason I posted this all over the web) is..

    1. Nothing is impossible, Monitors are clever beasts, so be prepared for any contingency.

    2. For all internal wiring, grommets, plugs and covers are absolutely mandatory.

I have seen some cobbled up cages before, and that just will not work.

That box was a good yard straight up, and a 3 inch baby monitor scaled the wall to get to it.

Another thing to note while we are at it, they are like rats, if they can get their head into a hole or crevice, then they can get the rest of their body in without a problem.

I saw Chomper squeeze through a 2 inch crevice when he was an adult.
