Glad to hear you want to get into T's
Personally I find the ultimate starter tarantula to be Grammostola pulchripes, the Chaco golden knee. They're a desert species so easy to care for, almost always very docile, and get to an impressive size. My female pulchripes is one of my favorite T's in my collection.
Aside from those the other T's I recommend checking out are Eupalestrus campestratus (the Pink Zebra Beauty/PZB), Brachypelma albopilosum (Honduras Curly Hair) and Brachypelma smithi (Mexican Red Knee). All three are generally quite docile, and are also desert dwellers, though the B. smithi can sometimes tend toward kicking urticating hairs from time to time.
Housing will depend on the size of the T you get, but in general the floor dimensions should at least be 2n by 3n and the height from the substrate to the lid of the enclosure no more than 1.5n, where n is the tarantula's leg span. If you choose one of the four I mentioned, all you'll need is some bedding (shredded coconut husk works well, or organic porting soil without insecticides or fertilizers), a hiding place for the tarantula, and a water dish with fresh water at all times. Feed them about once a week.

I'm not totally versed on dealers in the US but if you aren't opposed to buying online, you could check out Ken the Bug Guy or Jamie's Tarantulas, I've heard nothing but good reviews about them.

I am no expert by any means, but I believe the blue cobalt would be a less than desirable first t. Rumor has it they are extremely aggressive and though I am not positive, may possess a medically significant bite. They are however stunning looking creatures.

Nice choices! The cobalt blue is a beautiful animal, but as was said before they are extremely fast and aggressive. While their venom is not dangerous, it certainly packs a VERY powerful punch. They are also borrowers so you won't see them often. There's no reason you shouldn't get one even though you're a beginner if you're prepared to respect the animal and take the necessary precautions, but I would say wait at least until you're used to caring for the two that you have coming before jumping into a cobalt. You don't need to do "stepping stone" animals per se, just get used to the behavior first is what I'd suggest.
