Stupid Question Time...
I've been reading on the BOI about some dude who scammed multiple people by selling crested geckos he either didn't have, or sold multiple times to different people. That's a really messed up situation, but my question isn't about him.
Though out the thread, everyone refers to these individual crested geckos by name i.e. Vegan Cupcake, Frenchie, Abby, Rosebud, Sleepy, Doc, and Sneezy.
They talk about them sorta' like AKC registered show dogs. Is that just how crested gecko people roll, or what's the deal?

It's just what the seller was calling them which helps people more easily identify which gecko is being talked about. The primary one in question Vegan Cupcake was highly sought-after because of how it looks and people are more easily able to understand which gecko he was scamming people about the most by referring to it by the name he gave it.
There are some geckos that are famous enough that people talk about them like AKC show dogs because so many people want it. Wally Kern's red gecko named Red Bull is pretty popular around here (I'm too invested in the crested gecko world so I don't know how far reaching it is) and some people with offspring produced by him or one of his descendants will mention how it's related to Wallies gecko.
Long story short, there are some geckos that are so highly sought-after they are known by name like show dogs, but I think in the case of the fauna thread it was to help make it clear which gecko they were talking about.

Re: Stupid Question Time...
No problem. It can get confusing if you are not really into them. The gecko world is a little different than ball python world.

LOL, yeah, other than Platty Daddy, I can't think of too many BPs that are known by name
