    i think my ball python has a respiratory infection :(

    ok well he just got out of shed about 2 weeks ago so it could be stuck shed on his nose but i cant see any stuck shed and he has being wheezing but its only when i hold him when hes in his cage hes fine. he doesn't have any mucus around his nose that i can see of. if he does have ri what are the steps to treating it?

    Hi,

    You look inside the mouth for the excess mucus not around the nose.

    Also look for sitting for long periods with its head raised and mouth open.

    It is possible for it just to be normal heavy breathing if you only see it when the snake is out and being handled.

    If it is a respitory infection it needs to be treated by a vet - get a culture done as it will mean the most suitable medication is used. Until the results come back they will probably prescribe a broad spectrum anti-biotic like baytril etc.
