    More pics of the Pastel

I went ahead and did the trade, I needed the freezer space The guy said that the pastel is a 4 year old male that has been breeding this year. And everyone is right he is skinny. But that can be fixed. I took everyone's advice and set up a 20 gallon long tank in my room, which is all the way across the house from my other ball pythons, and I will keep him here for quarantine. I have read different answers on how long to quarantine for , so I will ask here. How long should he be in quarantine before putting him in my rack? And here are a couple of quick pics I took of him after we got home. I didn't want to mess with him to much since it is a wet and nasty day here and I am sure that being out in all that stressed him out.

Oh, he's clearly a pastel, from these pics.

I quarantine for 12 months. Long time? Yep. Why? Because some of the deadliest viral diseases can incubate for at least 10 months with no more symptoms than fussy eating. So, for me...it's quite simply not worth the risk. 3 months just isn't enough to rule out the worst.

You have to decide for yourself what level of risk you want to accept.

better pics and I see pastel now too (albeit a super browned out pastel).

I'd keep him in quarantine for 6 mos at least.

    Totally a pastel!

I quarantine for ~6 months. But it's really personal preference.

Thanks everyone. I will keep him in quatantine for atleast 6 months maybe more. I may consider building a quarantine rack, since my ball pythons really prefer the racks over tanks. Here are a couple more questions on quarantine. I know that the quarantine rack should not be in the same room as the rest of my snakes, but how far away does it need to be? Is the next room over ok? Or a space outside of the reptile room ok? Or does it really need to be completely across the house? The reason I ask is the back part of my house, which is my critter's part of the house, is set up like this; walk into the laundry room and it goes to the back part of the house. Walk into a small hallway-ish and on the left is my reptile room, on the right is the door to garage/dog training room, followed by a nook that use to be a closet that is now gutted and straight forward is my dog grooming area. I was wondering if the nook/closet could be turned into a small quarantine area, even with it being across a small hall. Other wise I will see about setting a up a rack in my room. Thanks in advance for any responses
