    Orange Ghost

So I'll have myself a female POG soon and I'm going to get a male as well next year. For my future females should I try and find hets? I plan on getting a lesser, fire, mojave and enchi.

If the ghost gene is your thing, and you have a solid, breeding male visual ghost, het ghost females are not going to hurt. Otherwise, you'll be making your own hets, which isn't a bad route to take either to build up your own breeding stock...that's what most of my breeding this year consists of.

Het females would be cheaper if you already have a visual male. Not sure exactly what you are asking. Should you get a het male? Or should the new female additions also be het?

A lot will be determined by which male or males you choose.

I really dig the OG projects. Here is my Orange Ghost Mojo boy:

Here are his future lady friends:

    Black Pewter het Hypo

Well I'm getting a female visual Pastel Orange Ghost and I'll also be getting a visual male. So I guess when I go to pick up some other females I'll looks for some hets. Maybe not all but a couple

Het Ghost usually (unless it is a Champagne) add too much to the price, but may limit selection.

Not following you here Jinx...about champagne, or how het ghosts add too much to price.

As far as limiting selection, I don't think so...I like to think of it as keeping the selection more in focus.

I meant that is usually DOES NOT add that much to the price. Missed a word there.

Look at the price difference for a female Champ and then a Champ het Hypo (because of Mimosas). It is several hundred dollars. For most other morphs, the het Hypo is not that much more expensive.

IMO Hypos are for the most part way under valued.

By limiting selection, I mean it may limit finding the best example of the base morph.

    Re: Orange Ghost

Assuming that your male visual (not clear if he is pastel too) is the same line as your female, then it would certauinly make sense to get some nice female morphs het for OG when you come across them. Alternatively you could use the male to produce your own hets if you are happy with his quality. I am growing up a male OG that I hatched last year from a particularly nice line of OG's (Ray Hine ones) to produce hets when he is big enough as hets from this line are not easily come by; I was very happy to get my male and to exchange his sister for some cash + a baby het from their older sister. I do have a nice Bell line female OG and a male POG + a male hypo mojave to breed to her next year as I am keeping the lines separate.

These are my two visuals from last year, my male on the left.
