    Anyone notice?

How hard it is to come by an Asian water with a little size? I can find some babies locally but am having a very hard time finding anything 3ft or more...

I was looking into them for awhile (and I might again someday as I really like them) but I couldn't find them anywhere besides petsmart and my local reptile shop and neither place had more than one.

And yes the ones I have seen were small.

Try GBU. They have a few water monitors. I don't think they're exactly 3 feet, but they're not tiny either.

Petsmart had one?!? That's crazy! I wouldn't think they would be set up for a 130° basking spot. The thing about AWMs is they can get RI real quick if not having proper temps...

Yeah, They definatly don't have proper temps (but is that really a susprise?) I don't think that they are susposed to have it, it was probably brought in by someone. I doubt that it will last long unfornatly and I really hope that the employees don't misinform potential buyers about it.

Man, that's all we need. Someone buying a V. salvator from a PetSmart...

To Zombie, why the desire for a "larger" one? Why not acquire a hatchling? Then it will get to know you and you know its life history.

A properly raised 3 footer is only a few months old anyway...

True, but I do already have one that's close to the 3 ft range and I would like to eventually attempt the challenge of breeding them. I have been told that when an AWM lives its whole life solo that makes them not such great breeders because they aren't use to other monitors. My goal was to get one close to the same size as the one I have so they can have supervised interactions. I was just thinking a smaller monitor may end up looking like food  seeing as how the slightly larger monitors aren't readily available I will have to buy some smaller hatchlings and hope they are quick growers. I was also thinking I could put the younger ones' enclosures in sight of the bigger and then they can at least see each other...
