iphone 4S crashed
My boyfriend just recently got a new iphone. He was uploading songs onto it from itunes and then he had a problem with it. The phone will not restore itself nor can it even be powered off now. He gets an Error 14 message from our PC. Does anyone know what is causing this?

Yikes. No idea. My iPhone 4S is very cooperative most of the time. Might just be a dud. I would take it in to the closest apple store, or whatever store you purchased it at ASAP to get a new one or so they can fix it. Since it's new, they should do it no questions asked.
Also, have you googled that error code?

Thank you for your quick response. Yes, we have googled it and it basically said to to turn off our antivirus protection and try to restore the the original settings again. We tried that several times and we also tried other thinngs that we googled but nothing makes a difference.

What anti-virus software are you running? I know my mother had some trouble with her iTouch when she tried to upload music to it with her ZoneAlarm. She had to turn off the firewall and the parental controls to get it to work. :/
Stubborn apple products. But I'm not gonna lie, the iPhone has been one of my best investments. The stores are usually very willing to work with you. If you continue to have a problem, I'd say take it back. Possibly take your laptop along to see if they can't help you solve the problem. If that doesn't work, and they can't figure it out, they'll give you a new one.
I would definitely take the laptop with you though. That way, if they give you a new one, you can insist that they help you set it up so that you don't continue to have a problem.

Oh! Another thing you might try is restoring it on a different computer. It has worked for me before when my iTouch wouldn't restore on my computer. I bummed my cousin's and it worked just fine.

Plug the iPhone into a power source (preferably the wall and not a computer) then press and hold the home button and the lock button at the same time until it restarts. This will force the phone to restore itself to factory settings and wipe all memory. (if it is not plugged into power all this will do is force the phone to restart)

Every time I go to use iTunes I have to temporarily disable my Kaspersky protection and turn off my firewall. iTunes is not compatible with anything that isn't apple it Mac and it causes the phone and iTunes to freeze and/or crash if you don't do these two things before you open iTunes and plug your phone into the computer.
My phone did this once and the master reset wouldn't even work. (holding the home and power button until you see the apple show up on the screen) So I just let my phone sit until it died because the battery just ran out. Luckily this worked. I plugged it in and it restarted. Then I did the master reset and it was fine.
Now I do the master reset at least once a week. An apple employee recommended it to keep the system clean. Clear your cookies and cache regularly too.

I had major problems with both Kaspersky as well as ZoneAlarm anti-viruses. This was before I got my iPhone though. Personally, AVG is all you need and it seems to work completely flawlessly, I never have any conflicts and the only virus I ever got was from doing some...late night searches...lol
Is your phone just completely frozen? That actually happened to me a couple of days ago. I plugged it in and it sorted itself out.
Hopefully you can get it sorted out, everyone else is right. The Apple store is really nice and co-operative, IF you're still under warranty. My phone had a problem with the mute switch and they swapped it out, no questions asked.
Good luck.

With iOS 5.0 there's no need to plug your iPhone into a computer. Turn on home share and iCloud backup. This will allow you to download anything you buy from your iPhone to your computer without having to plug the iPhone into the computer.

Re: iphone 4S crashed
My boyfriend has decided that he is just going to take the phone to the store and exchange it for a new one. Thanks for all the advice though, it was much appreciated.
