So I was having a paranoid moment tonight thinking about iHerp crashing and me losing all my tracking info. I don't keep paper copies, so this would be upsetting to me. Currently, I can't find a way to download the info from them, so I sort of devised my own.

I use Firefox as my browser, so I don't know how this works on other browsers you people may have, but I'm sure it's similar.

Go to iHerp, then go to your animal's tracking page. Right click (or go up to the top and select FILE) then select "Save Page As." Select the, "Web Page, HTML only" option under Save As Type and give it a file name. The file should end in .htm. What this does is saves the HTML coding of the page without any of the pretties like images, etc. You should be able to open this file (offline) on about any computer with a web browser and at least read the info.

I saved the tracking page and the animal's info page as I enter info like acquired date and who I purchased it from.

I plan to back up the tracking pages to my computer once a month or so. Once I got a rhythm down, it only took me about 10 minutes to save 28 animals worth of info. I have an online backup (Carbonite) that this info will then get backed up to automatically so hopefully that'll keep it safe.

I really like using iHerp for its ease of use and user friendly interface. I'm already pretty established with my tracking routine, so I don't really want to switch to a software program or other means of tracking, but I sure did want to have my info backed up in case something were to happen on their end.

I hope this helps some of you out!
