    Incubation Temp

Hey everyone! Bonnie had her pre-lay shed, I should be expecting my eggs around March 23rd. I was putting the finishing touches on my incubator and I wanted some advice. I have four egg boxes in the incubator warming up, bottles of water along the bottom. We have it currently set at 90 degrees, it fluctuates between 89-90, usually hovering at around 89.8-89.9 for most of the day. I have looked around for the proper incubation temp but it seems like everyone has a different idea of what is best. Does anyone have any advice on what temp I should aim for? I have heard anywhere from 88-90. Also should I be concerned with a 1 degree fluctuation? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

    I incubate between 88 and 90.

To answer your question, no you do not have to worry about a 1 degree fluctuation, I have a 2 degrees fluctuation and never had any issue.

Your fine. A temp swing a couple degrees is no big deal. You just dont want spikes of over 90 for long periods of time. Anything between 86 and 90 will hatch fine. As a matter fact there are alot of breeders incubating at 86 to 87. The theory is lower temps result in longer incubation times by like a few days but they are seeing bigger hatchlings.

I have heard that incubating at 90 will hatch them quicker but I do it at 89. Or atleast thats what I set my thermostat at. It bumps from 88-90 but i have never had a problem with it. As long as humidity is good, you should be alright with one or 2 degree fluctuation

Okay, I will set it for 89, then it should fluctuate from 88-89, that way its a little slower to hatch but maybe will come out with some larger babies. Thank you guys for the help.

    Re: Incubation Temp

I incubate mine at 89 also - I feel like this gives a little more wiggle room before they would get too hot, since I've noticed my incubator has a little trouble cooling down as eggs near term in the summer months.
