    Titanoboa, Gainesville

Thought I'd spread the word for anybody in the Gainesville area who might be interested in checking this out. I haven't made it over to the Florida Museum of Natural History in a while, though I love the place and always have a good time when I do.

Here's an article I found real quick with some pretty cool visuals.

And the e-mail that was forwarded to me earlier with the attachment.

    Dear Colleagues,

This Monday, March 12th, marks the second presentation of the “Ken & Linda McGurn Speaker Series” at 4 pm in the Powell Hall classroom. The speaker is our own Dr. Jonathan Bloch, the Associate Curator of UF’s Vertebrate Paleontology collection.

Dr. Bloch’s upcoming talk is entitled: Titanoboa: The Science Behind the Story. Dr. Bloch will discuss how his team of scientists, working in the Cerrejon Coal Mine in Northern Colombia, discovered the largest snake that ever lived. This discovery has shed new light on what life was like 60 million years ago in tropical South America. Come learn more about this amazing 1.25 ton animal which inspired the Smithsonian exhibit and documentary airing later this month on the Discovery Channel!

I have attached an announcement with more information but feel free to contact me with any questions. Please plan on attending and helping us make this new speaker series a continued success!

    Thank you. –Griffin
