Sphagnum Moss for BP's?
I'm curious to find out if anyone uses this as a staple bedding for Ball Pythons? It's pretty cheap.

I wouldn't suggest it, thats just asking for scale rot. Aspen/cypress mulch/coco-husk/paper towels/butchers paper/corrugated wrap would be better

Definitely wouldn't use it as a main substrate, however I do use it to help increase humidity a bit while shedding by putting it into their favorite hide. Perfect shed every time.

I only use it in my humid hide. And yes, it is cheap, a $7 box of it lasts MONTHS. But I think it is waayy too moist for a main substrate unless you NEVER misted it, which defeats its purpose. There are other more practical cheap substrates, just use the moss in a humid hide.

I use it in conjunction with my driftwood hide and most recently in my hot hide, like others have said perfect shed and ease of humidity control

I don't use hides. Would anyone suggest sticking some moss in on one side of the tub to help during sheds?

Ummm, you should use hides. Universally they make nearly every animal safe. as far as a substrate goes I use Fir Bark, you can wash it and dry it and reuse it dozens of times.

I'm curious as to why you don't use hides?

My snakes don't have hides either, they're in a rack which acts like a hide in of itself. I put some moss in the back corner during the winter to keep humidity levels up. They're not going to get scale rot unless they are constantly laying in wet substrate. A little moss in the cage is fine.

I understand not using hides in a rack tub. It was sounding to me like Kaball uses a tank.
