    Super Excited

So I was cleaning my girls cage yesterday, and I knew one of them was preggo, but after playing with both of them - it became very apparent that they are both pregnant. I'm super excited. I've had mouse babies before, but not rat babies. I can't wait.

On one hand I'm all happy - on the other hand I'm kinda sad cause I know that 95% of them are bound for food for the snakes, but I'm excited for the decrease in food costs

I have a wide enough range of sizes in my snakes that at any time during the rats growth period, someone can eat them. If I have any surplus, I have two places I can sell them to, so I don't end up with more than I can handle.

About 3 weeks! Too long! I guess this will prepare me for later on when I have to wait months for BP babies

I love rat pups. Watching the process of their growth is just so exciting.
I find that rat breeding is just as fun as ball breeding, if not more.
    Congrats!

It is kinda tough, you know the reason you got them was for food, to reduce your feed bill. But they are so dang cute, you almost feel like a proud mama.

Thanks guys! I've managed to convince my boyfriend to let me keep one female to get knocked up later. The two I have are pretty old (as far as rats go anyways) and I don't want to breed them to death.

I used to have a really hard time feeding live babies (I really love rodents) but I've been able to get over it and realize its gotta happen, and its not going to change just because I have a problem with it. Next step - breed them myself, then feed them off xD

I'm just happy Sam agreed. If they have 15 per litter, thats two weeks that I don't have to buy food for the snakes. Saves me somewhere around 40$ a week! Yeah. I'd like to have 4 breeder females, but I think that would be pushing it. At least for right now. Once I have more baby snakes, I'll have to get more breeder females so I'm not driving to the petstore (which is literally less than 1/4th a mile away) everyday.
