New snakes shipment
I received my first shipment today, 1.0 spider, 1.1 pastel, 1.1 het albino. They came from Texas and traveled through the storms last night to Atlanta. A few questions, they all urinated in their bags. Is this normal, or a reflection of the bad weather on the trip? I cant imagine it was a smooth flight.
Also, the two pastels were very pissed. the female threw some hisses my way when i got her out and put her in the tub. the male struck at me. i understand that shipping is very stressful for the animal, but i didn't expect all that. I have them all in their tubs now and I am planning on leaving them for at least a week. Any input on a time-frame for feeding/handling?

urination is what it is, if they had to go they did. stress might have played into it but I wouldn't say that it caused it. You would be pretty pissed off as well if you were in their shoes. how they react to shipping all depends on the snakes personality and how well they were packed/how smooth the shipping went.
You should wait a full week without bothering them then you can try to fed them. do not handle them until they have had 2 consecutive successful meals.

Re: New snakes shipment
It seems peeing and pooping can be a means for snakes to 'unload' stress some times. Getting handled and making them active can encourage them to do this as well, in my experiences, for more than just snakes. I had one years ago that would only go after they were allowed to crawl around alot, so I do think moving and activity can facilitate elimination. I just got five that I transported about 6 hours and about half of them soiled their bags, and those that did were less handled. Where did yours come from in Texas if you dont mind me asking? I am always looking and I am in Texas Post pictures when they get settled. I could look at BPs all day long and good luck with them. Sounds like very nice additions.
