    Question about Caramels and Kinking

I've been looking at Caramel males recently, and found several at around four months that appear healthy and kink free. Are kinks present from birth? Or could the healthy young snakes I'm looking at develop them later in life?

Yes they are, I do not believe that they can be developed later in life.

There are some folks out there who will argue that all Caramels from the original lines show a least some kinking under X-ray. I have not seen enough graphic proof of this to draw my own conclusion, but I would not hesitate to pick up a Caramel that didn't show any visible signs of a kink. Along with Lessers/Butters, I think Caramels are some of the most attractive color morphs.

especially if you don't plan on breeding the animal (not sure if you do or not) then if you can find one that seems to be living a happy life, I don't think that it will be a big deal. I almost picked up a carpet python with some minor kinking... but I have no plans on breeding them anyway. (In the end I decided to get a different one but that is another story)

That's how I felt about it. I was looking for pet purposes. I just love the coloring, it's so striking.

I have a good deal to learn before I breed anyone, and when I do I'll probably start with a dominant or co-dominant morph. (Trying my hardest to eliminate failure when I get to that point. (; )

Also, the snakes I'm looking at are out of the 'SnakeKeeper' line. Any thoughts here?

What line doesn't matter a huge deal, they get crossed all the time anyway. Now if you are buying directly from "The SnakeKeeper" then you are probably going to get a good animal as he is a breeder with a good reputation.

    X2

Also the TSK line of Caramels is one of the most established which means it's been out crossed quite a bit. That's a good thing.

There are lines of caramels that are better then others. The best is the crider line. No kinkers
