    American Alligator

I have had many Alligators over the years and I just got a new 2 foot long male (assuming). It is worth noting that this is not a pet animal. This was a rescue that I have taken in for the time being until I can send him south to a rescue. I have taken in many Alligators due to working with 5 counties in southern lower Michigan and being a certified in Wildlife Rehabilitation with the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council. He is a cute little devil.

These photos were taken while we were setting up his cage. These plastic bins are shipping crates that are collapsing and work great for any large reptile. I mainly use mine for Tortoises.

    Enjoy

Thank you everyone for you kind words. He is doing good. He has yet to eat but I think once I get some more heat in with him he should do fine.

*GASP* JEALOUS! That is so great you are doing that. I can't imagine someone trying to keep one as a pet. I just want to touch one Congrats on your new friend. Hopefully you find a good rescue for him.

    Thank You Very Much

I must admit that the vast majority of the cases that I have been on have been people who buy them on a whim and don't think beyond the first "exciting" feeding. I have met some people who do think before buying and most of them end up with caimans but still a difficult animal to tame at all.

I get a lot of calls due to one of our local stores getting baby Alligators every spring and sell them for $100. So I do all I can to help and educate.

It is interesting because in the past I have use Alligators that I had on hand for educational presentations and people say a lot that they have "wanted to know what one feels like". I tell them it is like leather covered rocks on the top and soft silky leather on bottom. lol

I have a few connections for the Alligator down south. I have family in Alabama and there are some really nice people down their who rescue "pet" Alligators.
