couple questions about king snake temps

[Definitions]

Hi guys just had a quick question... well a couple actually

1. I have my heat pad at about 91 degrees is that ok?
2. The aspen on top under the hide is about 78 on the hot side is that ok?
3 I used my infrared thermometer on my corn snake and his body temp was 78 is that a proper body temp for a king snake?
4. The ambient temp in the tank is 74 is that ok?

He is in a 20 gallon long and eating and digesting food properly. He doesn't seem to be lethargic or anything. I was just curious if I should get a over head night light to run the temps up a little bit. I mean I do live in California lol so the room temp is in the 70's and the out side temp here lately has been about 79 to 80. Sorry for the drug out post just a concerned king owner.

I'm not an expert on Kings, but here's what I do for mine who's been thriving since I've had him (over a year):

1) My hot spot for him is at 88-90 degrees
2) I don't use aspen because I prefer paper towels, but my hot spot on top of the paper towels still stays around the same hotspot temps mentioned. He's never been overheated or burned.
3) I don't know what's normal for their actual body temps as I haven't used my temp gun on my snakes.
4) My king is in my snake room where I keep it at a constant 79-80 degrees in that room. My night low ambient temp in their tubs (their as in all my snakes in that room) are around 75-76 and during the day they stay at 78-80 ambient.

I believe corns and kings are fine with lower temps (lower than what balls thrive at) so 74 should be okay for him for ambient temps. As long as he has his hot spot, is shedding, eating and digesting fine, and is in overall good health I wouldn't worry about him.

Thanks daybreaker I was gonna use a tub which I still might in the future. I had the tank hanging around my garage so I went ahead and used it for the snake because he was originally a rescue from petsmart so I needed something quick. Someone dropped him off there and my buddy that woks there went ahead and gave him to me for free. He does have a hotspot of about 91 under the aspen so if he did need heat I'm sure he would dig down "Crossing fingers" lol. I mean its not that thick of aspen maybe 3/4" of an inch. Also great collection you have there love your boas !!

I would defiantly recommend a tub, though I have an adult corn in a tank and he does fine but in general I'm a fan of tubs. Right now my King is at 150 grams, and he's in a 28qt tub. When he gets larger he'll go in a 41qt for the rest of his life unless he becomes a monster. I get my tubs at Walmart: ~$6 for the 28 and it was ~$9 for the 41. I use binder clips all around the sides so I don't have any escapees. Also I have paper towels for him and he happily burrows in there when he wants to to.

For yours if he burrows just keep in mind that you may not want him burrowing down and laying directly on the heat pad, that would make me nervous especially on glass. I have a little cut piece of repti carpet or a piece of .20 cent crafts fabric from Micheals in each tub under the newspaper and paper towels but over the pad just in case anyone burrows so they don't lay right on the pad (ie the pad isn't inside the tubs of course but right on the plastic over the pad). I don't think the temps are high enough for burns but it gives me peace of mind and they still get appropriate hot side temps. Just a suggestion!
