    Red and Shag

Yes, I named my carpets after types of carpet. How original, right? I completely forgot to post pictures of them in my previous thread so I figured I'd post up the pictures I took of them when I first brought them home. They are doing well. The male just shed so I'll be getting some new pictures soon. The female is still just as fiesty, but both are eating frozen/thawed fuzzy mice. Its been almost 2 months now. For now they are in 10g tanks, but this summer, as they outgrow the tanks, I'm going to move them into cages.

Shag - The supposed male (I don't know for sure yet. I was going to sex them soon)

Red - The supposed female (she's evil! )

I was told they were Irian Jaya/Coastal crosses but the guy didn't know for sure. Any ideas? I do not plan on breeding either of them. They are purely pets, but it would be nice to know what they are. If I like working with these two, I plan on expanding and getting into breeding carpets.

They sure look like what I expect Irian Jaya/Coastal crosses to look like.

This essentially means that they are intergrades, and that particular cross has not been valuable to breeding, despite still being awesome animals. If you ever do breed them, make sure you stress to any purchasers that the offspring are intergrades so that they don't get passed off as pure anything.

Great looking little worms you have I recommend investing in a snake hook if you don't have one, I'm a huge fan of Midwest Tongs brand, their basic hook is a fantastic tool. It makes dealing with bitey baby carpets much more pleasant.

Aww! So cute! I love the little worms. My female IJ is little like them still, and shes Fiesty. Her daddy on the other hand is downright vicious He tried biting one of my fingers the other day - if he had actually got ahold of my finger, he might have taken it with him!

And I agree - I don't have /much/ experience with crosses, but from what I've seen of IJs and Coastals, that's what I would imagine they looked like.

They are just pets. When I decide to breed carpets I want to get pure animals with known genetics. These two are a way for me to get a feel for keeping them. Now that they have had some time to settle in, im going to begin working with them both. I want them both used to handling. I don't think Red will take to that well. Shag is more promising.

They are so much different than ball pythons. I'm going to be redoing their enclosures soon. I'll take pictures. :-)
