Help! Did he fall asleep while eating or is he hurt?
I am still in the middle of feeding my 6 months old python and everything started fine, he striked at his food as usual and coiled around it and then... he just froze... and has been for over an hour now. He did move once to move in these awkward positions.
Now I'm worried. He is breathing though. Is he hurt or is this normal behavior? Did he fall asleep? His neck is in a stranger way still grabbing his prey.
Any advice would help.
I touched him a few times to get him going but he just won't do anything, just coil tighter or in a different way.
He's been at it since 7:30.
I can post pictures if necessary.
(I feed my other snake and cleaned both tanks meanwhile)

Have you tried turning off the lights and leaving him alone for 30-60 minutes?

No worries, just keep it dark and don't bother him. Instincts know what to do. I have had some get "stuck" but they are in no harm.

If he dont eat it, Reheat it to about 100F and offer again and all should be well. I get a few that constrict a rat for 20-30 mins straight

I have had my girl constrict multiple times, over and over again. She will uncoil like she is about to swallow and then just start all over again, strike and coil. A continuous coil could just be another quirk. As long as he is breathing, shouldn't be a problem. Turning the lights off, as mentioned above, is good advice, lights can weird mine out too, you just never know what is going to unsettle them on any given feed.

Must've been one good zombie dance. No worries, just do as the others have said and turn the lights off and leave him be.

Re: Help! Did he fall asleep while eating or is he hurt?
I didn't have internet for days now and still don't but im logging on my phone to give an update.
turns out he had bit the food the wrong way and was stuck trying to release himself from it. I helped him. He yawned / readjusted his jaw 5 times then I let him back in his cage.
a few days later he refused to eat when I tried again. Left him alone. Tried everything.
And right im holding him dead in my hands... he died. I can't believe it. I wish I knew he was in pain or what he was feeling. I can only blame myself for not taking better care of him.

Im sorry for your loss. The whole situation sounds puzzling to me. Makes me wonder how he passed.
Don't blame yourself too much. It sounds like there wasn't any visual signs of discomfort for your snake other than getting snagged on the rat. You did a good job and helped him get loose. Many people would just see that their snake has a rat in their mouth and walk away.
