Injecting pipracillin
A couple of my ball pythons have a respiratory infection. I went to the vet and I have to inject pipracillin intramuscularly. The vet showed me how to do it, but I feel like I'm doing it wrong as there's always a pretty substantial bump afterward, like it's going under the skin and not into the muscle. I've tried looking for videos and it appears that they're all made by kids in their bedrooms.
Does anybody know about how deep their muscles go? Would it be dangerous to go in a quarter inch under an adult female's skin? Are there any videos on this made by someone with experience, like a breeder or a vet?

Re: Injecting pipracillin
hi, what part of the body are you giving the shot at? their muscles are at their thickest on the dorsal side.

Just make sure your in the first 1/3rd of the body and injecting towards with needle going in on angle in direction of front of body.
When going in on a slight angle you will go right under skin and into the muscle and be fine. Inject slowly as too fast itll cause air pockets or lumps like your describing.

Sounds like you gave a subq(under the skin) injection. You can do that too, but its a little slower to react compared to IM. Just go a little deeper next time.
