Issue already... Small white bugs in water, jumping around the surface
Tonight while changing Newmans water I noticed some tiny white bugs the size of a pepper flake jumping around in his water bowl (black water bowl, easy to spot). I can't find them anywhere else in the cage, and he isn't acting differently.
Mites? Fleas? Lice? Any ideas? They won't show up on a camera.

**Did some digging. Possibly harmless wood lice from the cypress mulch?

Possibly Springtails. If they jump when you blow on them, are about the size of a period, and white; most likely springtails. You can google search an image. They are harmless and feed mostly on fungus.

Are you using pure 100% cypress or cypress blend? Also if its pure cypress where are you getting it from?

Springtails jump. They are awesome. I have them in my scorpion viv. They are a natural clean up crew for Eco earth, coco mulch, and cypress. Great for any natural viv or enclosure with a dirt substrate like monitor enclosures.
If they are springtails they are harmless. People usually have them in their potted plants also.

Yes they jump when you blow up them. It's 100% Natural Cypress Mulch.
EDIT: They "did" jump, but they got flushed. Poor springtails.

They were most likely springtails then and not wood mites. There are a couple different species of springtails. I have the tropical version in my scorpion viv. There is a another variety that more commonly seen in potted plants in stores and nurseries. I bet that's what they were and they're in your cypress. No big deal. If they bother you being there, just freeze your bag of cypress.
