    Snakes in Church

    Random Story:

So my church is starting a new series that will go throughout the whole year, and we're calling it "The Big Story". We will be covering the Bible from start to finish. We started this week and our Childrens minister asked if I would bring one of my snakes to childrens church as a preview of what they are going to talk about next week, which is the fall of man when the snake convinced eve and adam to eat of the tree of good and evil. So I took my red tail and the kids went crazy! They all wanted to hold him and touch him, it was a really great experience just to let them see a snake close up thats not behind a glass at the zoo. One little girl thats about 6 years old yelled out; "is that a diamond back rattlesnake?!" it was really cute. I thought it was pretty funny that all the men in there were backing up against the walls too lol.

I took a Pied BP in to church for a children's sermon during the regular service. We talked about the good snake in the bible (Moses turned his staff into a snake). They loved it. Some of them came to me after service to hold the snake.

I've taken Kallista twice to my high school group becuase one of the leaders there- she loves ball pythons and used to have one.

I would have taken her only once, but the first time I brought her, that leader didn't show up. XD

Kallista doesn't seem toooo bothered by it, and little kids who saw her after church really liked her. ^^

It's pretty neat to go out and educate people like that.

I've taken mine to church several times. By now all the regulars are used to it but any visitors usually look a little freaked out. But because of it, two families have fallen in love with them and went a got their own pet snake

So many people have just never had the chance to have a good interaction with snakes.

I love any chance to teach people about my snakes. My only concern with this scenario would be to make sure the kids understood that today's snakes are not strictly the same as the "evil serpent" in the Biblical references.

Yes that was explained lol. I stood outside the classroom after it was over and let everyone get a close look and answer all the questions that were asked.

I've never taken any of mine to church, but I do take them every now and then to my kids classes at the elementary school. Both of their teachers have herps in the classroom and always welcome my "show n tails"... Opisite side none of the local pd will step into my house due to fear...lol..

Haha thats funny! My mom and sister both teach and I'm going to take my collection to their classes one day and do another demonstration. I already have a mom messaging me on facebook that I'm the reason her son wants a pet boa now .

I love all these stories! I'd love to take my snake to my church someday and perhaps open peoples' eyes a bit. Once I was told by a leader of a Bible study that I could not be a Christian if I owned a snake, and that furthermore, I was stupid for owning a snake because it would eventually bite and kill me.

I have a ten-month-old (at that time, three-month-old) ball python. If she managed to kill me, that'd be quite a surprise. As for the idea that I can't be a Christian if I have a snake - well, that's quite a surprise to me too, seeing as the last time I checked, I had a snake and was still a Christian.
