Oh no no no....not happening Florida.
What crawled up their butt latley? Throwing out all these ridiculis bills that are just plain stupid. And now their telling us what we can and cant purchase or ingest?
Wow 2012 is off to a sucky start....
I see nothing wrong with that. If I, as a taxpayer, are paying for someone elses food bill (i.e. they're on welfare), I'd rather not have them buying soda and twinkies with it...

I agree with sho220... I dont live in FL so this has no bearing on me though. But if my taxes are paying for their welfare checks, I dont think people should be allowed to spend it in strip clubs or casinos. Thats completely wrong and frankly kinda pisses me off. ESPECIALLY the people who dont really need to be on welfare. They really just ruin everything for the good people who actually do need to be on it.
The part with the food is kinda iffy but when it comes down to it I would have to agree with it too. The only flaw is that the price difference between junk food and healthy food must be considered. If a mother can feed her family for 1 week with healthy food OR 2 weeks with unhealthy food she's probably gunna go with buying the unhealthy food...

It should be run the same as WIC...you get vouchers for food that is actually nutritious, and there's no debit card, so you can't get cash. Seems simple enough???
Then again, this is Florida we're talking about...here's the real solution...

It's not the low income person that is using those cards at the strip clubs, casinos, and tropical islands.
It's the drug dealer that gives them 50 cents on the dollar for their card.

Illinois is about to ban boas and pythons.
Anyone know more about IL ban?

True...get rid of the cards and that problem goes away...doubt if you can get a lap dance with a grocery store food voucher...

Not much info there, but it beats derailing a thread about welfare in Florida...

I agree with this. If you're on food stamps, you should be using it to buy real food. Not junk...And this is coming from someone who grew up on food stamps.

1.0 Western Slender Glass Lizard; Logos
0.1 Charcoal Cornsnake; Morana
1.0 Golden Gecko; Smoothie
1.1 African Plated Lizard; Cypher and Nara

Man you do not want to get my GF started on this. She gets hugely angry when we're in line waiting to check out at the grocery store behind someone with food stamps/WIC/welfare, because usually that person has a giant cart full of food, gripes to the cashier about what they can and can't buy, and judging by their clothing (way more expensive than ours), accessories (iPhone 4s or some expensive Android phone, hair that obviously cost a lot of money) and jewelry (giant diamonds, etc), are financially better off than we are. (We do not qualify and just do our best to get by.)
I'm definitely with the people upthread.
First off, if you can't afford to feed and house kids, don't have them. Birth control is NOT rocket science, and it's a lot cheaper than kids are. That, or if you're of a religious persuasion that thinks every sperm is sacred, you could always refrain from sex (oh noes!).
Second, if I'm paying for your reproductive irresponsibilities to eat, it had better be healthy food. I see no problem with the idea of restricting what can be bought with those funds.
Hm, judging by what I just typed, you don't want to get *me* started on it either, and I toned it down somewhat from where I started.
Mountain bikes are for slow people, and reptiles are far better pets than cats & dogs!
