    OMG! Butternut squash!

So my Irwin has always been what I'd consider a picky eater. He'll usually only eat a little bit of his salad and lets the rest go to waste. I've been giving him a combination of collard, mustard and turnip greens.

Well...I discovered this site: http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html and thought I'd give him some more options. So I went out and bought a variety of beans...yeah...no go.

So LAST night I go out to Walmart and found already chopped turnip greens (yay!) as well as a mixed slaw of shredded broccoli, red cabbage and carrot. I also found a bag of cubed butternut squash.

When I made his salad this morning with all his new stuff, I took it into him and he wandered over to check it out. He did the classic beardie head tilt and tried one of the pieces of butternut squash.

Oh. My. God. I have never seen him eat with so much gusto! Then he actually rooted through the salad to find more! He did eat some of the other stuff too, so that was good.

I am such a happy beardie momma today!!

That's great, I'm trying to get my little girl (about 4 weeks old I think) to eat her greens. I know that the young ones mostly eat insects, but she does't seem to want to eat her vegetables at all. I'm going to see if I can find some Butternut squash now

I grew up eating butternut squash so I tried it straight ways I just lightly cook and chop it and then toss in in an ice cube tray and freeze it. (I buy whole squashes so I get 5 trays worth plus a meal for me too.) My guy likes it but doesn't love it. :-( he is pretty good with his greens though. I feed him Escarole, dandelion greens, spaghetti squash, strawberries blackberries and watermelon as 'treat additions' The little bugger won't touch any green if I dust it with Calcium, he eats dusted insects like crazy but the greens he turns his nose up to.

I have a young bearded dragon, and he would only eat crickets and not even bother looking at the greens.

We're still in the taming process so when I went to pick him up yesterday and he opened his mouth to show me how bad he was I just stuffed a little piece of mustard greens in there. I did this every time he showed his teeth (around 5 times) until it was time to put him up.

When I offered him his salad this morning I just tried to offer him a small leaf by hand before running out the door, and he took it like it was candy. Ended up hand feeding him several pieces before he refused.

My guys love butternut squash too! They also really like spaghetti squash and pumpkin too! My big girls favorite treat is raspberries. I freeze them and then break 2 up and mix it well into her salad when shes being picky.
