    Post ovy eating...

Do females always refuse food after ovy? Or will some eat?

Some have been known to eat after ovy and even while sitting on their eggs during incubation

But those are few and far between.

Very few have tried maternal incubation. Those that have tried it have proven that they will definitely eat while incubating the eggs. It's a myth that they won't.

As far as eating after Ovy, I haven't seen it, or heard, but I'm a relative newby, being only my 2nd year breeding. I never had any of my females eat from about 4 weeks before Ovy until after laying. Not saying that it doesn't happen, but I don't know of it happening.
Lots of BPs, and still not enough!

    They can, but most won't.

I had a female eat 2 days before laying last year.....had no idea she had ovulated.......looked like she had a big turd.....fed her a medium rat....went in 2 days later to change water, and she was sitting on 7 eggs......so it does happen, but this is the only girl that I have ever have eat after an ovluation.......granted, she is the only one I have ever offered after an ovulation, and if I would have seen her ovulate, I would not have even offered......

If they do eat after ovulation, why do you not offer?

I have 2 girls starting shed today and they have both been glowing and laying inverted for a while. They have been pairing up since late October, and I think I missed the ovy. But they both ate last night. They are pretty big tho. I wouldn't be surprised if I see eggs 28 days after this shed...

TO not risk damage of the internal organs. As the stomach and others are cramped with little room to expand. If you MUST feed fees a quarter of the normal meal size.

Most females go off feed before ovy anyways and then i stop offering till eggs are laid.

I have heard of some snakes eating, but I really wouldn't want to feed them after they ov. Like it was mentioned, they have a lot less room for food when they have eggs and you could potentially do damage to the snake or eggs and it's just not worth it since they are fine without eating.

What if the ovy wasn't observed? They are in shed now so I am going to have them go off feed for a lil while until I know for sure. They are big girls 2700g+ so I am not worried about them skipping a few meals...
