The guy said hes just a pastel, and I never really thought much of it but since a few people have seen him and offered me way more than a pastel male should go for am I missing something? I am happy to have him as just a pastel just live his color and pattern. With out further blabbering here he is.

I think he is just a good quality pastel but with an awesome reduced pattern and great blushing (which imo are great traits for a pastel!). Very pretty boy!

Re: Is there something more to this pastel? Crazy pattern blushing and color

About three years ago, I had someone offer me $1500 for my adult lemon male, because as an adult, people mistook him for a super, he was that bright.

Now that people are sick and tired of looking at ugly pastels and starting to selectively breed more, they're more willing to offer better money for better examples of the morph.

I sold the lemons I produced this year for more than market value for your "average" pastel. I just delivered three of them to a customer at Repticon on Sunday. He sent me a message yesterday telling me that the nicest looking pastels at the show were the ones he got from me (and I wasn't vending), and in his opinion were even better than some of the supers for sale.

He showed them to one vendor who he said was blown away, because he wasn't used to seeing YELLOW pastels any more.

When we were sitting in the snack area at one of the tables looking over the snakes I delivered to him, one lady was like "OMG - is the breeder who produced those here at this show??" and he said "she's sitting right here delivering them to me". They definitely grabbed folk's attention, because at the height of BP morphs exploding, people were breeding pastels just to pump out pastels and make money - without regard to producing some of the best they could, and people are generally not impressed with pastels they see at shows.

Once you've seen a nice pastel such as yours - people take notice. Really nice examples are rare, and so folks will offer nice money to get superior examples.

Yours reminds me of a guy who did pump out a bunch about four years ago - he's no longer in business, but while he pumped out a lot, he selectively bred for that high blushing, and that distinct pattern you have on yours with the single dots in the pattern that cross over the back - or what I called key holes. I remember him, because I drooled over his pastels, and that's when they were still selling for over $1000 each. When I was finally able to get one, he was getting out of the business and had sold off his stock.

Wow! I agree with Rabernet, most of the pastels out there are subpar imo. It's pretty rare (unless you really look hard) to find a quality pastel nowadays. You really lucked out with that guy! Good luck on producing some beautiful babies.

Rabernet you'll have to post a pic of one of those babies.
I agree it's hard as heck to find a quality pastel. I see some at our show and it's like looking at a normal.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any last photos before they went on to their new homes.

Here are a few older pictures of some of them, right as they were going through their ugly duckling phase (lemons come into their colors and really start to pop after about their fifth shed).

This is when they first hatched
