    Is this for me?

Really been wanting to start herping. Surely it's not just running around in the woods and looking under bushes. I love finding and studying local wildlife, so I think I want to try my hand at making it a serious hobby. Any advice?

P.S. I'm very aware that It's not a good idea to touch the vipers. ^.^

Im not sure what your question is...? You want to know if you should do something you enjoy? In this case that would be herping?

    haha

To the OP, if you're looking to make it a serious hobby most people have some added excitement to it - so it's not just running around looking under bushes.

Some people will bring their kids along, or will collect data. Myself, I love to backpack, so I'll plan hiking trips around looking for herps. I also love photography, so taking photos of what I find adds some exitement - looking for that perfect shot. Myself, as well as many others also have "life lists" to keep track of everything you've found/seen in the wild. I have ones for primates, reptiles, and amphibians - birders are well known for their life lists.

Anyways, the point is, if you don't find it interesting enough to just look for herps, then pair something up with it.
