Oh my Gosh, please don't let it be a RI...

I noticed a thread on here earlier this week about a BP making a squeaking noise, and I went to look at it, it mentioned RIs and now I am completely panicked...
Bradley (my new pin) messed his tank, so I had to take him out to clean it up. Well, as I lifted him up, I heard some squeaky noises, like if you have a big booger in your nose and breathe heavily- well, he seemed to be really freaked when I picked him up and he did start breathing heavy when I did... He hasn't been breathing with an open mouth, and there are no signs of fluids or bubbles. I don't think he's shedding soon, although I can't really tell, I haven't had him for a shed yet so I don't know what his look like! Does it seem like it is necessary to rush him to the vet? If it is an RI I don't want it to get bad before I take him in. Ugh, I am so freaked, I've always been super paranoid about RIs...

This is your guy that hasn't eaten for you yet too, isn't it? Boy, on the side of caution I might be making a trip to the vet. (BTW, I am usually waay anal/cautious/worried about things like that). So maybe I am freaking out with you. Better safe than sorry, it couldnt hurt and would ease your mind if it was nothing. I have never heard any of mine make a noise before. I hope he is ok.

Yeah, it's the same one. This is the first time I've heard him make any noises, but it would explain his lack of appetite. (But so would a lot of other things...)

You might have posted this in another thread, but what is your setup like? Temps?

    Temps are:
    basking 90-92
    Ambient 84-87
    Cool 75-82

    Humidity is at about 50%.
He has a thermostat and the tank is heated with a UTH and overhead red bulb.

Re: Oh my Gosh, please don't let it be a RI...

Watch your little guy closely for a little while.

I was so paranoid when I got my second BP since the first one I had ever owned apparently had an RI when I got her and I had noticed immediately that my new guy, who I have had almost two years now, made a squeaking noise whenever I took him out of his enclosure and whenever he was out climbing around. I never hear him make any noises any other time. He doesn't rest with his head up, yawn, "cough" or sneeze, no bubbles, no crusties, no mucus. Nothing. The only thing is the squeaking. He still eats and poos no problem, and is perfectly happy when he's out and exploring. He's perfectly healthy, and has squeaked since day one.

So your new baby could have the beginnings of something, or you could just be the proud new owner of what I like to call a "squeaky snake". Either way, watch your husbandry and keep an eye on him. If you notice ANYTHING I mentioned above, take him to the vet immediately. If you could keep track of his weight that would be good too.

Mine does this as well sometimes, because she's a derp. If he's not breathing heavily or making that noise inside his enclosure, he was probably just alarmed by being picked up. Mine makes that noise when I have to lift her out and she's in the middle of a nap. I'm sure it's just general annoyance if he's eating well, shedding well and seems alright in the tank otherwise.

He's not eating well, and in fact not at all. But I've only had him three weeks, and it is winter and he's a year and a half old male...
So, I think I may have gotten panicky for nothing, I haven't heard another single noise out of him, not even when I had to pick him up today to clean his tank again. The little brat upended his water dish and somehow got all (I mean in it's entirety...) of his substrate balled up inside it. I'm not even mad, I'm impressed.
I'm still going to watch him closely and listen for any other noises, though.
