    Incubation for Blood eggs

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share tips and how they have successfully incubated blood eggs. As far as what type of incubator they used (bought or home made), temp and humidity to keep the eggs at, as well as substrate used.

Any tips or input from people who have successfully bred bloods would be appreciated!!

    Thanks

    Re: Incubation for Blood eggs

Mikey, we've hatched +/- 1000 shorties in our incubator which is an old wood box that was built to culture bacteria 30 years ago..Got it free behind the hospital....
The temperture you want to see during incubation is between 88-90 with 89 being the sweet spot..Humidity in the egg containers should be 90+to 100 %..(saturated)The tried and true medium is vermiculite (course grade) which is mixed 50/50 by weight with water..When buying egg substrates be careful to avoid additives used in horticulture..Once the eggs are set they should look full up until "approx" 45 days at which time they will start denting/collapsing due to the consumption of matter from the growing baby..If all went as planned we look to see 1st pips at 56 days..Lower temps will prolong the time period and high temps may or will often put spinal kinks in them..During the latter part of incubation we open the egg boxes every day to make sure the developing babies get fresh air..
