Can colubrids transmit diseases to pythons?
Hi all,
I have run into the possibility of getting a kingsnake from someone on Craiglist. I currently have a ball python and only two rooms in my house, and I want to do a proper quarantine if I end up buying the king. I'll be keeping the new snake at a friend's house for the time being, but I wanted to know if there are any diseases in particular that I should be worried about?

I'm not sure about diseases but I know mites can be spread across all reptiles. I don't think IBD is transferable from colubrids to pythons or boas but I don't know about parasites or anything.
Wish I could be more help.

I don't think colubrids Can even get IDB, but if you properly quarenteen the new animal you have nothing to worry about.

There are many viruses other than the one that causes IBD which can be transferred between colubrids and pythons, so yes--quarantine carefully.
I quarantine for a full 12 months, after the research I've done. 3 months simply doesn't cut it.

Yes, they can. It's uncommon but very possible. You should quarantine, but I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I may not be very smart, but what if I am?

Hmm, thank you. The king is only staying with me temporarily (if I even get it... seller hasn't responded yet). Good to know the full year q'tine is recommended.

12 months is her personal preference. Generally 60 to 90 days is sufficient.
