Help me pick another snake!!!
Hi guys and gals,
My birthday is coming up soon and my girlfriend is going to buy me a second snake. I currently have a normal female BP that I have had for 7 months and kept with great success. I believe I am ready for more of a challenge (although there is nothing wrong with a snake that is easy to care for). What I would like in a snake is; 7 foot max, handleable, docile, and it would be nice if they were more active than my BP (However, I understand that not a lot of snakes are like that). I also really LOVE Red Tail Boas... Im wondering if anyone knows how big a male BCI will get? Any recommendations are appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex

Hogg Island boas are ones I would look into, they are a sub species of red tail that stay much smaller. Bloods pythons and dumerils boas also both stay under 7ft I believe.

I would look into a Male Jungle Carpet Python, a Male should stay around 7 foot. A BCI might get bigger than 7 foot, but they are also really stocky animals. Carpet Pythons are much leaner and thus easier to handle.
Here si what A Jungle Carpet Python looks like

0.1 Pastel 100% Het Clown Ball Python (Hestia)
1.0 Coastal/Jungle Carpet Python (Shagrath)
0.1 Dumeril's Boa (Nergal)
0.1 Bearded Dragon (Gaius)
1.0 Siberian Husky (Picard)
0.1 German Shepherd/Lab Mix (Jadzia)

There are other sub-species of carpet pythons that stay smaller and some that get bigger. The sub-species look different, but have the same body style. Let me know if you want more info.

I'd recommend a super dwarf retic. Females will stay within your limit and a male would be well below. They are quite active and very inquisitive. They are very good snakes.

I'd say a Colombian BCI of any morph.
Any of the dwarf boas.
A carpet.
A true super dwarf Retic possibly.
Or you can look into the larger colubrids. Like a Rat snake or a Bull Snake. I'd like a white sided Bull myself.

Irian Jaya, they stay around the same size as a large ball python. They are the smallest of the sub-species. in all honesty if you want to know about the different carpet pythons, the carpet python Wikipedia page has a lot of information as do these links:

My columbian BCI is 7 feet, the females can get around 10ish.
You can pick up a baby for fairly cheap.
