Humid Hide Question?

What material should I put into a humid hide? My wife bought a bag of peat moss with miracle grow. I don't think I will use it because of the fertilizer. Would Reptile Bark work in the humid hide?

DO NOT use ANYTHING with fertilizer of any kind. The best is sphagnum moss. You can buy it at pet stores in the reptile section. The stuff they sell specifically for reptiles is all natural, and a little goes a long way. The stuff I bought was about $6 for a box and I have used about 1/3 of it in 2 months.

Sphagnum moss without chemicals... the next logical follow-up question is whether or not this is a germ sponge and how often to change it.

To draw from another thread I read recently here, you only need to replace it every month with your 'full cleaning' or so unless they go to the bathroom in there. It should be moist but not dripping wet.

I always use my nose to determine if a humid hide needs changing personally I only use them when there is shed sign not before so it is usually only in there for ten, fifteen days or so. If it smells musty mouldy old anything other than earthy it is time for a change. I use sphagnum moss mixed with coco peat. No chemicals added to either.
